Chandrababu Naidu tops list of richest CMs, Pema Khandu and Siddaramaiah follow: Report

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been named the richest chief minister in India, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The report revealed that Naidu’s total assets are worth over ₹931 crore. Following him is Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, whose assets are valued at more than ₹332 crore. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah ranks third with assets exceeding ₹51 crore.

The ADR report also calculated the average wealth of chief ministers across India. The average value of assets owned by 31 CMs is approximately ₹52.59 crore. This figure significantly contrasts with India’s per capita net national income (NNI) of around ₹1,85,854 for the financial year 2023-2024. Moreover, the report highlighted that the average self-declared income of a CM is about ₹13,64,310, which is 7.3 times higher than India’s average per capita income.

Liabilities and criminal cases

The report noted that some CMs also carry substantial liabilities. Pema Khandu has the highest liabilities among chief ministers, amounting to ₹180 crore. Siddaramaiah’s liabilities stand at ₹23 crore, while Chandrababu Naidu owes over ₹10 crore.

The ADR report further highlighted the criminal records of some chief ministers. Thirteen, or 42%, of the 31 CMs have declared criminal cases against themselves. Ten CMs, or 32%, face serious charges, including attempted murder, kidnapping, bribery, and criminal intimidation.

Out of the 31 chief ministers, only two are women: Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal and Atishi from Delhi. According to the report, two of the CMs are billionaires. Three CMs have assets worth more than ₹50 crore, while nine have declared assets valued between ₹11 crore and ₹50 crore.

In terms of education, 10 CMs are graduates, and two hold doctorate degrees. Regarding age distribution, six CMs are between 71 and 80 years old, while the largest group, 12 CMs, falls in the 51 to 60 age range.

This report provides valuable insights into the wealth, liabilities, and backgrounds of India’s top state leaders, showcasing the disparities in income and the diversity in their profiles.
